I'm Craig Newman. I'm a WSSA Senior majoring in photography and creative writing. Journalism is my passion, with law as a close second. I write for the school paper. If you want me to take a picture of you or write an article about you, don't waste your breath because the answer is no. I'm not as bad as you've probably heard, so save your drama for someone else.

WSSA Has a Great Win, 14-13

August 17th, a day of many firsts— the first Friday of the school year and the first football game for WSSA this season, and against our rivals as well. Hundreds of students from both schools flocked to the bleachers this evening to support their favorite team, or perhaps both of them.

The game was a tough one for a while with APPA in the lead, but there was one small move that helped the Bulls take over the Bobcats during the fourth quarter. Aiden Fade of the APPA Bobcats fumbled the ball with one minute left on the clock. The ball was then taken up by WSSA’s quarterback Evan Josipovic, who then kicked it through the goal in the last few seconds of the game, gaining 8 points and the first win for the team.

The stands bursted out into cheer and lasted that way for a while— one side thrilled to have won, the other enraged to see the game slip from their hands so easily. Just like every year, this game is the first straw among many that separates the two related schools and pits them against each other. To be safe, security guards were at the exits to prevent any fights from starting between the two groups of students.

New Year, New Hopes || Article

The hoards of people navigating through WSSA halls is a refreshing sight and means one thing and one thing only— the 2012-2013 school year is beginning. For a school filled with such driven and talented students, it’s only normal that they’re formulating lists in their head of all the things they’d like to see happen for themselves and for their school as their year progresses.  Senior competition is on the upperclassmen’s mind, and adjusting to the new school is on our current freshmen’s mind. With such diverse faces and mindsets, there’s bound to be some other hopes among our student body. So what’s everyone hoping for this year?

“Football season,” One of our seniors Teddi mentioned, “If we suck my senior year I’ll actually be upset”.

A popular vote indeed, as one of our cheerleaders agreed and added, “I can’t wait to see if we’re undefeated in football this year”.

The pressure is on, as well as the anticipation for the first game on Friday against our rivaling school APPA.  For about a month the team has been waking up in the early morning for practice with hopes of improving from last year’s lackluster performances. Their moves this year should leave us cheering, just as much as the student-written plays that will be put on this year by our graduating seniors.

Two of  four productions that will be put on this year, It Girl and Pure Life, have been written by someone in our student body. In The Heights and an undecided summer production are also on the list, so stay tuned.

After our first break in November, a Fall/Winter fashion show will be held and all proceeds will go towards the programs here. Designers, it’s time to get working so your designs can be in the spotlight.

What does the rest of this year hold? It’s a work in progress, paved by each and every one of you. Your opinion and votes matter and can change what new events and opportunities pop up. As for now, enjoy the year the best you can, and welcome to WSSA.
